Dynamic and Experiential Curriculum

We seek to educate the whole child at The Britleys by applying an International Montessori philosophy, in a family-oriented environment. Our environment serves the particular needs of each child’s stage of development and is comprised fully of teachers who understand these stages and in turn act as guides to help our students find their natural paths of development. We offer yoga, meditation, music and dance, etiquette lessons, foreign languages (Spanish & Mandarin), nutrition lessons, gardening lessons, to name a few. For full details, view our curriculum page!

Daily Etiquette Lessons

Children are in their most impressionable stage during their early years, which is why our etiquette lessons are the cornerstone of our curriculum! This is an ideal introductory-level course for our students to learn about decorum, social skills, and table manners. We designed the lessons to foster their growth with an ideal combination of instruction, practice, role-playing, and character-building lessons specifically for them.

Foreign Languages

At The Britleys, our native Spanish, English, and Mandarin-speaking teachers work side by side. Activities are carried out naturally in these languages. English is not taught separately but rather experienced cognitively and emotionally as a lived language in a formative context. We introduce materials in English, Mandarin, and Spanish. The individualized learning process that marks the Montessori method naturally lends itself to the implementation of the multilingual approach.

Our Outdoor Classrooms

The importance of outdoor play for young children cannot be overstated. That’s why we bring learning to the great outdoors! Because of our proximity to the area attractions and museums in the DC area, our students visit the museums, National Mall, and area attractions twice daily!

Scrumptious Meals and Snacks Daily

We provide a nutritious snack each morning and afternoon, and a nutritious breakfast and lunch daily. We introduce the students’ palate to various meals from around the world in moderation. Our menu excludes processed foods and includes fresh or frozen fruits as well as loads of vegetables, and high-quality protein sources. Parents are constantly surprised at the variety of foods that their children eat at school that they won’t even try at home. Often this is due to “positive peer pressure.” It might not happen the first time or even the second time, but children will eventually eat foods that they see their friends enjoying. Studies have shown that children who are exposed to a variety of healthy food options at a youthful age tend to make better choices about the foods they eat as adults.

What our Parents are saying

"Words can’t describe how appreciative I am of the Britleys. We moved from LA to DC and our daughter began to attend the Britleys at 1 year old. She is now 2 years old and sings songs and counts in Spanish and Mandarin. They frequently visit museums and have a wonderful curriculum! She has built great friendships and loves her teachers. We are so grateful for the impacts on her cognitive, social, and emotional development! Thank you to all the amazing teachers at the Britleys!!"

-Sarah J.

"The Britleys is a wonderful first 'school' experience for toddlers and parents. My daughter started just over a year of age as one of the youngest kids and really blossomed under the loving care of Gloria and her staff of teachers. They plan engaging activities and lessons and obviously really care about your kids, which is a huge relief for parents. They have great hours and are very good at giving each child what they need."

"I cannot say enough good things about the Britleys! Gloria and her staff are amazing with our son! We moved from Atlanta and they made the whole process seamless. Our son has flourished in their care. I trust everyone at the school completely with my son everyday! My son is excited every morning to go to school!"
